About Commonwealth Dog Obedience Training Club

Services

Group classes, run in terms. The club publishes a "Beginner Pet Obedience Class" – "Running for 7 weeks – First week of class is WITHOUT dogs!" – covering "basic commands: sit, come, stay, down. Walking on a loose leash and tricks", and notes that "This class prepares dogs for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test." Alongside it are "AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Training", a "Competition" class that "will start with a review of heeling, retrieves, and position changes", and "TDI (Therapy Dog International)", described as "An introduction to therapy dog work and preparation to take the test."

Where they work

"All classes are taught in Crimora, 7 miles north of Waynesboro, VA." The venue is given as "Crimora Community Center, 1648 New Hope Road, Crimora, VA 22431". The club describes the space as "an outdoor grassy area for fair weather, an indoor heated classroom with wall to wall rubber matting, as well as the main training area which is a larger, not climate controlled former cafeteria."

Method

"Commonwealth Dog Obedience Training Club advocates the use of positive reward training methods. We teach you how to make your dog want to behave in the appropriate manner, not punish your dog for inappropriate behavior."

Good to know

This is a club rather than a business, and the pricing reflects that: the beginner class is listed at "Cost for Non members is $60, $30 for members." That is the cheapest structured group work in this catchment by a wide margin. Entry requirements are published: "All dogs pure-bred or mixed breed, 14 weeks or older with current vaccination are eligible for classes." Classes run to a calendar in seven-session blocks, so the practical question is when the next block starts rather than whether there is a space this week.

What they can help with
