About Start Them Right Inc.

Start Them Right Inc. runs obedience classes in Cary and Pittsboro and is led by Sherry Dodson, CPDT-KA. The business states it has "been in business for more than 30 years" and that its classes "are recommended by veterinarians, technicians, groomers, as well as former class members."

The class ladder

Five levels are published and they form a clear progression: Puppy Kindergarten, Beginner, Canine Good Citizen, Advanced, and Therapy Dog. The business describes the work as "lively beginner and advanced dog obedience training" at "competitive rates," and frames the classes around the owner rather than the dog: "We teach you to teach your pet how to be well-mannered and obedient."

Credentials

The site lists membership of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and the CPDT-KA certification, which it explains as "knowledge assessed by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers." Both are the business's own claims. Class dates are published on the site rather than arranged by consultation, which makes this one of the more straightforward businesses in the metro to join.

Who it’s best for

Best for owners who want a traditional class ladder with published dates, and for anyone working toward a Canine Good Citizen or therapy dog goal.
