About Blue Prints Dog Studio

This is the Chittenango side of Blue Prints Training and Socialization Center, at 1292 NYS Route 5 West. Both addresses are published side by side in the header of every page of the business's own website, along with a single phone number, so the two sites run one program between them rather than operating as separate businesses.

What is taught here

The training menu is the one Blue Prints publishes across both locations: a six-week Beginner Obedience course, a six-week Intermediate Obedience course that follows it, puppy training, group classes, drop-off training and private training. Completion of Beginner Obedience is the stated prerequisite for the specialty classes.

Method

The business describes itself as a training facility first and says it builds behavior from what it calls a dog's genetic blueprint using positive reinforcement, crediting Dr. Ian Dunbar and Dr. Jean Donaldson. Its position is that a dog of any age, breed or temperament can be changed with that approach, and that the owner's education matters as much as the dog's.

Also offered

Daycare and socialization run alongside training at Blue Prints, with a Board and Play option and an application and requirements process for new dogs. The business is owned by Jim and Jackie Foster and has been operating since 2000.

Why the Chittenango address matters locally

For owners in Madison County, this is the nearer of the two Blue Prints locations: Route 5 West puts it on the main road between Chittenango and Fayetteville rather than requiring the drive into the city.
