About Savannah Dog Training Club
What they do
The Savannah Dog Training Club is a non-profit club whose stated purpose is plain: it "was established to promote the training of the family dog." Its membership includes "trainers, handlers and judges who are qualified to help in all aspects of training and showing in obedience, rally, nosework and conformation." Training sessions are offered for a nominal fee, with dates and times published on the club calendar.
How they work
The club states that it abides by the American Kennel Club's rules and regulations. Each year it hosts two trials of its own: an Obedience and Rally trial held the last weekend of June, offering all classes including the optional titling classes approved by the AKC, and an Agility trial held in February. Alongside training, the club runs monthly meetings — an education session and a general session — and these are open: "The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the education and general meeting sessions… Visitors and prospective club members are always welcome to attend." General meetings are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7pm unless the calendar says otherwise.
Where they work
Meetings and sessions are held at 341 Commercial Drive, Savannah, Georgia 31406. This is a members' club rather than a commercial training business, so owners looking for one-to-one behavior work should expect a different shape of help than a private trainer offers — but for sport, titling and family obedience it is the local club route.
