About Cyclone Country Kennel Club
An AKC-recognized club in Ames
Cyclone Country Kennel Club is an all-breed club at 205 East Second Street in Ames, approved and recognized by the American Kennel Club, with approximately 60 members. Since the late 1960s it has offered the Ames area training classes in obedience and conformation, annual agility, obedience and all-breed shows, seminars, and public demonstrations on dog health, training and breeds. Members also make monthly nursing home visits with their dogs.
Classes
Public and member classes run seven weeks for $125 (conformation excepted), with members receiving a discount. Classes hold 8 to 12 handlers and dogs, led by an instructor and one or two assistants, in a positive, supportive setting. Super Puppy is for puppies 8 to 16 weeks, focused on socialization, basic commands and puppy care. The 4-6 Month Puppy class adds door etiquette, tricks and games. Beginner Obedience, for dogs over 6 months, covers loose-leash walking, household manners and basic commands, and the lineup extends to Advanced Beginner Obedience and Rally Advanced. Taking classes in order is recommended, and some have prerequisites.
