About Canine Partners of the Rockies

What they do

Canine Partners of the Rockies is an Assistance Dogs International accredited service dog training and partnership nonprofit based in Aurora. It provides extensive training to purpose-bred pups, a personalized match process and lifetime support for each mobility service dog team, with no placement fee.

How the training works

Its FAQ says puppies from 8 weeks to 8 months attend puppy kindergarten and then intermediate classes, once a week, with their volunteer puppy raiser, who teaches basic obedience and the service dog cues learned in class with the organization's trainers. Puppies ready for advanced training work one-on-one with trainers three times a week.

Good to know

This is not a trainer you hire for a pet dog: people with disabilities apply for a service dog, and volunteers can apply to raise a future service dog. The site lists upcoming fundraising events and how to get involved.
