Blaine Kennels is a family-owned boarding, training, daycare and enrichment facility in Blaine, 10 minutes north of the Twin Cities. It opened in 1998 and grew from a bird dog training program into a behavioral training and boarding kennel. It welcomes all dogs, including those with behavioral challenges, and specializes in behavioral rehabilitation for unsocial, fearful, reactive and aggressive dogs, as well as puppy development programs.

Training approach

Training ranges from basic commands and loose-leash walking to impulse control, and teaches owners to be consistent leaders so dogs know what to expect and what is expected of them. Trainers use a range of techniques and tools, working from consistent principles built on a dog's innate desire to be in a pack, and a custom plan is developed during each dog's evaluation, then carried into private lessons. The daycare is run by dog trainers.

Facility and prices

The five-acre property bordered by wetlands has 15 yards, treadmills, slat mills, agility equipment, soundproofing and heated floors. Prices include an on-site evaluation at $279, on-site lessons at $229 (+$50 weekends), off-site lessons at $279, a 4 week board and train at $4,400, a 6 week board and train at $6,600 and a 10 week puppy development program at $6,600.
