About Oregon Humane Salem Campus

Oregon Humane in Salem

Oregon Humane's Salem Campus on Turner Rd SE is one of the two campuses of an independent nonprofit that has been celebrating the connection between animals and people since 1868. Alongside adoption, the Salem campus runs a spay and neuter clinic and hosts training classes in its Canine Classroom.

Training classes

Oregon Humane's trainers focus on building a strong bond between pets and people through scientifically based positive reinforcement methods and reward-based techniques. Salem classes include Puppy Training (under 6 months), Adolescent Dog Training (6-18 months), Basic Dog Training, Essential Skills, Small Dog Training (under 25 pounds), Reactive Dog Training, Recently Adopted Dog Training, and Games & Agility. Canine Good Citizen training, on-site and virtual workshops, private training and virtual cat training are also offered. Owners bring a collar or harness, a 4-6 ft leash, small high-value treats and a mat for the dog to lie on. A free pet behavior helpline is available at (503) 416-2983, and financial assistance for training can be requested.

What to ask

Ask which class suits your dog, especially if it barks and lunges at other dogs, and about current class fees and start dates.
