About Prairie Wind Kennels
What they offer
Prairie Wind Kennels is a dog training operation west of Casper, run by trainer Jeff Tarcha. It trains dogs for hunting, field trials and hunt tests, and also for owners who simply want a well-mannered family dog.
Programs
The field trial and hunt test program focuses on young dog foundation work, from puppy to transition: obedience (heel, sit and here), force fetch, casting, collar conditioning, introduction to birds and developing marking skills on land and water. The three-month gun dog program moves through obedience, force fetch and collar conditioning, steadiness to shot, and introduction to ducks and pheasants, and it trains the owner to work as a team with the dog. A four-week obedience program for all breeds lays the foundation for a controllable family dog.
Where and when
Training runs on large training grounds in Wyoming from April through November, and the trainer spends the winter months training elsewhere. Visitors are welcome at the facility, so call ahead to arrange a visit and ask which program fits your dog.
