About Paws University
Daycare, boarding and training campus
Paws University is a pet daycare, boarding and training facility in Kailua-Kona that calls itself West Hawaii's premier facility of its kind, on a seven-acre campus built for dogs to play and socialize under supervision. It says it was the first facility in the state to provide doggie daycare. The owners are Allen and Lana Daniels. Allen became a professional dolphin trainer in 1992 and founded Paws University in 1999 as a dog-training business, and training still uses operant conditioning, the method he learned training dolphins.
Training programs
Paws-Abilities is a six-week program ($184) focused on a trusting relationship, covering basic commands such as sit, stay, down and come, problem solving around jumping, nipping and digging, socialization with other dogs and distraction training. Private training costs $110 per one-hour session or $420 for four, at Paws or at home in the Kailua-Kona area. Boarding School is a one-month program for puppies 4-7 months old that combines daycare, dorm room boarding and daily training, plus two later consultations, for $2,500.
Behavior help
Paws says it can help with separation anxiety, barking, destructive behavior, aggression, socialization, anxiety, introducing a dog to a baby and house soiling.
