About Jackson’s Place Unleashed Pet Resort & Bakery – Dog Daycare, Dog Boarding, Dog Grooming & Dog Training
Jackson's Place in Midtown
Jackson's Place Unleashed Pet Resort is a cage-free dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training center at 3511 Milam Street in Houston's Midtown. Debra Cates opened it in 2004 as Houston's first fully cage-free facility, and it is staffed 24 hours a day with live camera access for owners.
Training
Its dog training programs focus on real-world skills using positive reinforcement. Training can be added to a daycare day or a boarding stay, so dogs practice good manners in a social, structured environment. Head trainer and part owner John Halford joined the team in 2007 after four years in the U.S. Navy. He writes training advice for clients, such as using a grocery store parking lot to socialize a new puppy to people, carts and noise.
The owners
Debra Cates grew up around show rings where her parents raised Great Danes and French Bulldogs. Robert Cates, an engineer and Navy veteran, partnered with her in 2018 to open the Midtown location and handles the back office.
What owners say
One client wrote that her "skittish, temperamental street rescue has blossomed at Jackson's".
