About Dog Training Club of Dallas County
A volunteer obedience club in Duncanville
The Dog Training Club of Dallas County (DTCDC) is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit club in Duncanville, formed in 1974 by a group of dedicated obedience trainers. It promotes responsible dog ownership and the sport of obedience, and teaches students to channel a dog's natural instincts into good manners. Classes are held in its climate-controlled building at 604 Crestside Dr, and all revenue goes toward maintaining the club and its service work.
Classes
Every class meets once a week for one hour over six weeks and costs $110. The Puppy Class, for pups 9 weeks through 5 months, uses positive methods to teach coming when called, sit, down, loose-leash walking, settling and handling, with discussion of crate training and socialization; the club is an Authorized AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Training Provider. The Beginner Class, for dogs six months and older, covers attention, loose-leash walking, stays, recall and door manners. Intermediate builds teamwork and impulse control and prepares dogs for the Canine Good Citizen test. Advanced options include Novice Polish, Open and Utility obedience, Novice to Masters Rally, conformation handling and beginner nosework.
Testing and therapy work
The club hosts AKC CGC, Community Canine, Urban CGC and Trick Dog tests, and helps members certify dogs for therapy work with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
