About Park Cities Obedience School
A Dallas obedience school since 1969
Park Cities Obedience School has been helping Texans and their dogs since 1969, offering training, boarding, grooming and doggie daycare in Dallas close to Highland Park, University Park, Uptown, North Dallas and Lakewood. Its philosophy is that training works best on a foundation of mutual love, praise, affection, friendship and respect. Methods are gentle, without shock or electronic collars, and use quiet commands, quick reward of a correct response, toys, play, touch and praise in place of food.
Classes and lessons
Kim Fuquay, with the school for 10+ years, teaches the group Puppy Kindergarten (10 weeks to 5 months) and Basic Obedience (6 months and up) classes, which meet one hour a week for five weeks with 10-12 dogs at most. Prospective students may sit in on a class first. Kim also gives one-hour private lessons at the school, at home or in a local park; her dog Brinlee is a registered therapy dog.
Board and train
The two-week in-kennel Board & Train runs Monday to Friday under resident animal behavior expert Karen Stark, supervised by Phil Marr. It covers sit, down, stay, come on a long line, loose-leash walking, attention to name, no jumping or door dashing, plus barking, aggression, shyness and puppy biting.
What owners say
One client wrote: "The obedience class was also helpful with simple commands. The instructor is great with suggesting minor changes in owner behavior."
