About Bent Creek Kennels
Retriever and gun dog training
Bent Creek Kennels is a gun dog training kennel at 8301 Monk in Amarillo, with Terrell Cooke as owner and professional trainer. Its programs aim to produce stylish retrievers that are exciting to watch in the field, make excellent hunting partners and are wonderful family pets. Training covers flushers and retrievers, pointing dogs and obedience, and the kennel takes a limited number of dogs so each gets the attention it needs.
How training works
Training starts by getting the dog to retrieve without pressure, then builds basic obedience with verbal and whistle commands. All dogs are force-fetched, and collar conditioning is used on all commands for a quick response at distance. Basic obedience and yard work (3-6 months of training) covers force-fetch and collar fetch, marking drills, force to pile, whistle sit, swim-by and water force, wagon wheel lining and steadiness drills. Advanced training (6 months and more) combines marks and blinds with advanced marking and blind work.
Boarding and updates
The kennel also offers full boarding and sends owners a monthly evaluation of each dog's progress, and owner participation is encouraged. Owners are billed monthly for training and bird fees. Call (806) 679-1972 after 7:00 pm to discuss a dog's progress. Dogs are also offered for sale.
