About Tallahassee Dog Obedience Club
A club class since 1960
The Tallahassee Dog Obedience Club (TDOC) in Tallahassee was founded in 1960 and is a licensed club of the American Kennel Club. One of its primary missions is teaching obedience classes to the public, under the motto of training owners to train their dogs. Classes run from August through May at the Sue McCollum Community Center at Lafayette Park or at the North Florida Fairgrounds, and the winter session begins January 6, 2027 at the North Florida Fair.
Classes
Classes last six weeks and are open to purebred or mixed dogs three months of age or older; the fee for a six-week session is $175. Puppy Class, part of the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program, is for dogs under nine months and focuses on socialization, basic skills, housebreaking and how puppies learn. Basic Manners is the most popular class and a prerequisite to Manners and More, which teaches the AKC Canine Good Citizen test elements and offers the CGC test at the end. Tricks and More ends with an evaluation for an AKC Novice or Intermediate Trick title. Rally and competition Novice, Open and Utility classes serve teams heading toward obedience competition.
Trials and events
TDOC is qualified to hold AKC sanctioned matches and trials for obedience, rally, agility and Fast CAT, holds obedience and rally trials in February and June, and runs Barn Hunt trials through the year.
