Wolfhounds Legacy Wisconsin Chapter
Overview
About Wolfhounds Legacy Wisconsin Chapter
Service dog training for veterans in Milwaukee
Wolfhounds Legacy is a volunteer nonprofit that trains service dogs for military veterans and first responders. It says it is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as Cape Coral, Florida, and its Wisconsin Chapter runs its own service dog training classes.
How it works
The group takes dogs from high-risk shelters and pairs and trains them with their handlers, with the aim of helping both the veteran and the dog. Dogs in training work toward the Canine Good Citizen test, and dogs that do not become service dogs are placed in family homes after training.
The Wisconsin team
The Wisconsin Chapter lists a head trainer, an animal behavior specialist and several trainer apprentices who assist teams in class.
What to ask
Ask about eligibility for the service dog program, when the next class starts, and whether you can train with your own dog or will be paired with one of theirs.
