About Papp’s Dog Services

AKC-focused training and testing

Papp's Dog Services operates a training center at 881 West Waterloo Road in Akron, OH, with Susan Jenkins as the lead. The offering is heavily AKC-oriented: "balanced training in conformation, obedience, rally, and puppy classes," Puppy Kindergarten, plus a wide slate of official testing — AKC Fetch, CGC, CGCA, Star Puppy, Trick Dog, and Therapy Dog testing. Phone consultations are also available. The guiding idea is helping owners understand their dogs: "Learn the canine culture so you and your dog can understand each other."

Judge-level credentials

What sets Papp's apart is Susan Jenkins's credentials — she is a licensed AKC Obedience judge for the non-regular classes and an AKC Fetch judge, lending real authority for owners pursuing AKC titles or evaluations. The business runs out of a dedicated facility (the site mentions building disinfecting protocols and limited visitor observation) and has earned local recognition, including being voted "Akron Best" two years running and a 2024 Nextdoor Neighborhood Faves Award. The site is current, with 2026 announcements and upcoming classes scheduled. For competition-minded owners or those seeking official AKC testing, this is a credentialed, structured option in the Akron area.

I started bringing my dog Pumpkin a little over a year ago now. She was a covid puppy. Lacked confidence and honestly was scared of everything. Through the guidance of Susan and all their wonderful instructors, we have come so far! Pumpkin has blossomed through their training program. She's no longer the scared dog I brought into the beginners class. We love coming here!

We've been taking our pup Luna for training since she was 4 months old. It's been the best thing we've done for our dog. I wish I would have known about them with my other dogs.
We have gone through puppy training, obedience one and two. We're now working on rally training which is so much fun.
Susan and her staff are amazing. It's very affordable. The knowledge you get is life changing for you and your dog if you're willing to apply it.

We took our 6 month old lab puppy to Papp's Dog Services for their 8 week beginner course. They taught great fundamentals of how to train a dog properly, in addition to the actual commands. They teach you proper corrections, when to give treats, when not to, etc. Overall, the value is well worth the price. They recommend spending at least 20 minutes each day between classes to work with your dog on the previous week's classes, which is vital to the successful training of your dog!

This is hands down the absolute BEST place for dog training. We had experimented with a few other companies closer to where we live in Hudson, but weren’t making as much progress as I had hoped so we decided to make the drive to Papp’s. My husband’s older dog Maggie went to 2 PAPP’s classes as a puppy over 9 years ago (before I knew him) and I believe those have made her the wonderful dog she is today. If you want to see real results and an obedient companion, call Papp’s.

We specifically drive over 30 min to go here because it is worth it!!! We have 2 very hyper bird dogs that require training from people who know what they are doing. And let me tell you, Susan knows what she is doing!!!
Susan is a wonderful trainer with extensive knowledge in this field. I love how direct the training is here, it’s truly the only way you will see results. Our 1 year old is a different dog after only 2 classes. Thank you Susan and the Papp’s team!

I've been bringing my dog here for about 16 months now, as she's graduated through various classes. The owners and instructors truly care about you and your dog's relationship and they work hard to ensure you get the most from your canine companion. We've already recommended them to other friends and family and we'll continue to do so.
