About Kim’s Dog Coaching Ltd

Keeping dogs in homes, not shelters

Kim's Dog Coaching states its purpose up front: it "believes in keeping dogs in their homes with their families, and out of shelters," noting that "most dogs are surrendered to shelters due to easily correctable behavioral problems." The site's stated goal for clients is modest and practical — "to make everyday life with your dog easy and fun" — teaching "skills that you will actually use and solutions that you can easily follow at home."

Programs

The site lists training classes alongside a set of sport and activity tracks: agility, rally, Happy Ratters, AKC obedience and sheep herding. Herding is given its own pitch: the site calls it "an incredible outlet for the herding dog breeds" giving "not only a physical workout but a mental one as well," and says it does not matter whether the dog is a city dog or country-raised. Course registration is handled online.

Method in their own words

Training is positive reinforcement-based, framed around understanding normal canine behavior and teaching appropriate behavior "using positive reinforcement methods that help to form a healthy relationship." The site is explicit that it does not run a single system: "Our approach is flexible, because experience has taught us that there is no one way to teach every dog, or to address each issue. The one constant in all our training is that the experience will be a positive one for people and dogs alike." Support does not stop at the last lesson — "after your lessons have ended, we are always just a phone call away."

Background

The site refers to its trainer throughout as Kim, without giving a surname, and points to two WGN Channel 9 appearances: a public service announcement for the FCCAC Microchip Campaign, and a WGN story on sheep herding with your dog.
