About Smart Dogs Training & Lodging

Board and train on five acres in Downers Grove

The about page opens “We are Ian and Kristy Dilworth, owners of Smart Dogs Training and Lodging,” and describes the business as “a unique, state-of-the-art, Dog Resort located on 5 acres in Downers Grove, Illinois.” The core program is an “immersion-style ‘Board and Train’ training program within our loving home setting” — the page is explicit that this is their own home, not a kennel: “This is our home, our life and we’re on a mission.”

What is offered

Alongside board and train they offer “In-Your-Home” training, which the home page describes as private lessons for a dog with a behavior problem that needs one-on-one attention. The site says they work with “all ages, breeds, sizes and behaviors” and names potty training, barking, jumping and aggression among the issues they take on. Luxury dog boarding is sold separately as a “Dog Bed and Breakfast.” The advertised starting point is a free phone consultation.

Credentials and experience the site claims

The about page states: “We are both members of ASPCA, ADPT and IACP, as well as CPDT-KA certified.” It credits Ian, listed as Owner/Master Trainer, with “over 15 years” working with dogs of all ages, breeds and temperaments, and describes Kristy, also listed as Owner/Master Trainer, as welcoming “the challenge of a dog owner at their wits end.” The site also lists in-home training options outside Illinois, in Naples, Florida and Kansas City, and sells two training books.
