About Behave! Dog Training & Behavioral Modification

In-home and public-access training around Rockford

Behave! Dog Training and Behavioral Modification states its goal as providing "you and your dog with the tools to enjoy a long and happy companionship," and is explicit that it does not run one method for every dog: "We understand many different theories on dog training, and believe that different dogs require different approaches."

The trainer

The about page names Kacee Downey as owner and operator, and says she has studied several different dog training techniques including positive reinforcement, Koehler, Schutzhund and home protection, and has worked with "timid and frightful dogs, 'damaged' kennel dogs, aggressive and dominant dogs, and exuberant puppies." The same page records a firm limit on how puppies are handled: she "insists that puppies never be intimidated or harmed, as this can cause serious behavior issues in the future."

Services and published rates

This is one of the few local sites that puts its prices on the page. In-home training is listed at $50.00 an hour, group training at $25.00 per hour per dog with a three-dog minimum, Kids and Pups! at $50.00 an hour and Bringing in Baby at $75.00 an hour; behavioral modification is priced after consultation, and obedience classes are listed as new with pricing on request. The site describes a growing "public training" option that works in places owners actually want to take a dog – pet stores, horse stables, dog parks – to build reliability under distraction. Bringing in Baby prepares a household for a new arrival and includes a three-month follow-up visit.
