About Mannered Mutts Dog Training

Off-leash obedience for suburban and urban life

Mannered Mutts Dog Training, at 13475 W. Elm Rd in Lake Bluff, describes itself as Northeastern Illinois dog training and says on its home page that it has been serving Northeastern Illinois for 15 wonderful years. Its tagline is "Unleash Unlimited Potential", and the stated goal is to help owners build a communication system with their dog that improves the relationship and, the site argues, may one day save the dog's life.

What they work on

The welcome section names the habits the programs target: jumping on guests, biting, leash pulling, barking, digging and aggression issues, with new habits built in their place. The basic-to-advanced obedience programs are described as giving owners tools to exercise dogs physically and mentally so their energy settles, and as developing self-control around real-life distractions such as a squirrel across the street, another dog on the sidewalk, or strangers the dog would rather not meet. The site says its certified specialists share tested tools, techniques and tips for keeping a pet safe in an urban or scenic setting.

Why off-leash

A long section argues safety is the main reason to pursue off-leash training, walking through what happens when a leash slips or a collar breaks near traffic, and what the same moment looks like when the handler has been coached through it. The site offers a free, no-obligation demonstration, described as a chance to explain your issues and goals and hear the training model, and also mentions a free virtual dog evaluation.
