About the club

Gem City Dog Obedience Club is a volunteer-run club in Dayton, Ohio that has operated since 1967. Its stated goals are to help train people to train their dogs, promote responsible dog ownership, and produce better canine citizens. The club describes its approach as focusing on training techniques that help you communicate with your dog in a more positive and effective way, and it runs a structured seasonal schedule of roughly five class sessions across the year.

Classes and activities

The class lineup is broad and progresses from beginner through advanced levels. Obedience offerings span Puppy, Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Novice, Open, and Utility. Beyond standard obedience, the club offers AKC and World CynoSport (WCRL) Rally, Tricks, Musical Freestyle (WCFO), Barn Hunt, and Agility foundations on an indoor turf room that can be carried through to masters level with their instructors. A separate outdoor "Land" property hosts Coursing Ability testing, Earthdog in real in-ground tunnels, and agility practice.

The club hosts numerous events, including AKC Obedience/Rally trials, UKC conformation, WCRL rally, and WCFO freestyle trials. Its main training location and a second land location are both in the Dayton area. Because it is a club rather than a single trainer, no individual owner, personal certifications, or fees are listed on the site.
