About Focused Dog Training, LLC

Two styles of training, both priced on the site

Focused Dog Training works across Dane County and says so plainly: "We have happy customers in Madison, Monona, Sun Prairie, Middleton, Fitchburg, McFarland, Stoughton, Waunakee, DeForest, Verona, Oregon, Cottage Grove and all of Dane County Wisconsin." The training-programs page opens with the structure: "We offer 2 different styles of training – In-Home Lessons and Boot Camp Programs."

In-home lessons

The in-home format keeps the owner in the work: "We come to you, work with you and your dog and give you homework to do between lessons. This will be fun homework involving you, your dog, and rewards! This style of training gives you the flexibility to keep living your life while also working your dog." The four-lesson program covers impulse control ("go to an object and stay on it"), basic obedience, leash manners, "Correcting bad behaviors – (Jumping, barking, counter surfing..etc.)," teaching the owner to lead, and house manners. The cost is published as "$1295 and includes 4 (1-2 hours each) lessons, training cot, any additional needed equipment, and our lifetime support."

Boot camp

This is a genuine live-in program, not a class with a dramatic name: "Your dog will live with us for the set length of their camp. This style of training gives you the freedom to live your life, while your dog experiences expert, hands-on training in our home." Three lengths are published. The 7-day camp at $1895 is a "jumpstart-level camp" teaching "Place, Sit, Down, Come, Off, and Release," and the page is honest about its limit: "This camp does not include outside leash manners." The 10-day camp at $2250 "lays a solid foundation" and adds "loose leash walking, outside work, and some behavioral issues." The 14-day camp at $2865 is "our most popular camp," with "unlimited follow ups, more intense work on behavioral issues, as well as working your dog in public areas (stores, banks, parks, etc.)." All boot camps include equipment.

Puppies and behavior work

Puppy training is offered in either format and targets specific complaints: "we specialize in addressing issues like jumping up, counter surfing, mouthiness, nipping, and play biting." Behavioral training is framed around transfer to public spaces: "we focus on teaching your dog essential behavioral skills that translate seamlessly from home to public spaces … From basic obedience commands to advanced social skills."

The promise attached to every program

The site repeats one commitment throughout: "Lifetime Support Guarantee … We are your trainers for life! This means that if you have a question, whether on a skill, or an issue or just clarification…all you need to do is text, call, email, facebook, instagram (i think you get it) and we will help you through that issue." It also states that the business "is recommended by many of Dane County's most respected veterinarians."
