About Toes2Tail

A relationship-first training, daycare and boarding operation on N 61st

Toes2Tail was established in 2020 and aims "to provide the gold standard of care in all aspects of pet care." It offers daycare, boarding, in-house sitting and training "from puppy basics to service work and reactivity," plus non-haircut grooms, from 5183 N 61st in Milwaukee. The business is explicit about access: it gives back to the community with free comfort grooms for those in need and discounted pet care for any animal that has trained with them, and it is now an official 501(c)(3) providing service dogs to low-income individuals and low-cost training for reactive dogs.

Method in their own words

"We have found over the years that the best way to achieve reliable, eager companions is to focus on our relationship with dogs. Our dogs are hand fed to encourage bonding and we are big fans of personal play. Our program is based on building trust, value, and independence." The stated outcome is that "a Toes2tail dog values their handler over their environment, have been encouraged to face their fears and trust their handlers judgement, and think for themselves." Care is individualized through what they call the Toes2Tail approach: "We consider your dogs breed (or mix), temperament, drive, previous trauma, diet, routine and health."

Safety and the team

Staff are trained in risk assessment, body language and sanitation practices, with bi-weekly deep cleans, daily hazard checks and Kennel-sol cleaning; the site says the team is working towards all staff being first-aid and pet CPR certified. The founder and head trainer began working with dogs in 2017 under a mentorship at Fireside Kennel, ran large daycare groups for other operators, and left a full-time job in 2023 to build Toes2Tail. He states on the site that he is "devoted to my education and have even entered myself in classes to become a certified trainer" – an honest note that the certification is in progress, not held.
