Anya saved the day helping us train our dog after our baby was born! Our eight year old mini poodle went through some big lifestyle changes moving states and adding a baby to the family all within a few months. Our new home had a window that faced an active street, and our dog barked nonstop at every passing car, delivery truck, and neighbor. This became less tolerable once our baby was born, and we called Anya for help. We had tried other dog trainers in the past, but nothing they taught us was effective long-term. From our first meeting with Anya, we could tell from her calm and confident demeanor that we were about to have a different experience. She taught us right alongside our dog so that we had the skills to practice and adapt the training she taught us to different scenarios. We were nervous about using the remote collar, but Anya educated us on how these collars are used to train professional working dogs, and reassured us that this training method would be a clear way to communicate a correction to our dog. Anya was realistic is setting our expectations for the results we could expect in training an 8 year old dog, but after completing our training sessions – we can confidently say she 'underpromised overdelivered.' We are able to enjoy our relationship with our dog again and can communicate our commands and corrections to him clearly now. Our dog seemed to genuinely enjoy the training sessions and is happier knowing what we behaviors we want from him. We are forever grateful to Anya and have recommended her to everyone we know. Thank you, Anya!

My wife had a collie when she was a kid and after retiring from teaching wanted to raise one from a pup. We kept an eye out for one for over a year. She found Luna at a small scale breeder in Wayne county. No papers or anything, but she was a classic rough collie, bright and in good health. We soon realized that a puppy is a lot to deal with… especially if you don’t know what you’re doing! We worked with another trainer, but didn’t seem to get anywhere. I think we may have found American Caniner via FB or a web search… Jacob came to our house and spent a considerable amount of time with us and Luna… (as well as the older dogs in the family!)…concentrating on making Luna the best puppy she could be and us the best dog owners we could be!! We had much to learn!!! Luna is past her puppy stage (mostly) but she and I take advantage of periodic group training sessions to reinforce what we’ve learned about dog… and human… behavior. We both have fun and it’s good for both of us!! Jacob and Anya just “get” dogs… and equally important, they get people too!! Luna is a gentle, happy, Lassie look alike with a lot of personality. Still working on a few things, but doing a better job with support from the American Caniner team! These people care about you and your dog.

Jacob at American Caniner was recommended to me by a close friend, and he did not disappoint! He boarded and trained Lady for two weeks when she was still a small pup. Before her stay, her herding instincts were almost unbearable. I couldn’t even walk across a room without her jumping, biting, and putting holes in my clothes. She came back a whole new pup! Since then, we’ve continued training with Jacob over the past several months, and Lady not only maintains her skills but keeps learning new ones. I would 10/10 recommend Jacob to anyone looking for effective, caring training for their dog.

American Caniner deserves 100 stars! We had a fantastic experience from the very start. Anya answered the first time I called and patiently listened to the issues we had with our rescue dog we got from San Antonio, TX (we live in the Akron area). Then she and Jacob asked a lot of questions and listened intently at the consultation appointment. Gunther had issues with aggressiveness when he was scared or unsure, he was very hyper and spastic, and we could tell he just didn't know how to behave as a dog in a loving home. We opted to send Gunther away with Anya for the 4 weeks border/training program. He came back to us a completely different dog! Gunther learned so much with Anya! He is a super obedient dog and overall has really calmed down. No more jumping on people, no more aggression, no more spastic behavior, no more scarfing his food…he is visibly a much happier dog! He now understands what is expected of him and he really wants to please. We are so thankful for Anya and her team. We have since participated in group walks and Anya is so caring of and concerned with all the dogs. Anya is also a very kind and patient human trainer (the reality is we dog owners often need as much if not more training on how to handle ourselves!)! No regrets, worth every penny and every bit of time!
