About The eXtraOrdinary Dog (The XO Dog)

The eXtraOrdinary Dog, which trades as The XO Dog, works from a Waxhaw address and its subject is narrow and clearly stated: shy and fearful dogs, and the people who love them.

The published approach

The site is built around a technique it calls the Personal Best. The argument is against fixed training targets: a Personal Best does not hold an owner hostage to an arbitrary goal to be met at some point in the future, or worse, right now. It sets criteria relevant to where the dog is emotionally at that moment, and it forbids comparison – between the dog and the one down the street, the one in class, or another dog in the same household. The reasoning given is practical: a dog that disengages through fear, boredom or frustration stops progressing or goes backward.

The site is written as a methodology resource rather than a shop front. Contact the business directly for those.
