About CRABTREE RETRIEVERS AND KENNELS

Crabtree Retrievers & Kennels is a boarding and training operation on a mountain farm – the site's own description is "a boarding and training facility on a mountain property" with over 100 acres of undeveloped land, a spring-fed pond and climate-controlled kennels. Its published location is 686 Ridgedale Road in Clyde, "a short drive from Waynesville and about 25 minutes from downtown Asheville".

Two halves of the business

The training half publishes four products: obedience training, puppy training, retriever field training and board & train. The boarding half is overnight boarding and doggy daycare. The two are meant to work together – the pitch is that a dog boarding here gets acreage, trails and pond access rather than a run.

The field-training specialty

This is the only business in this metro publishing gun-dog work. The site lists AKC and UKC Hunt Test preparation and titles, and retriever field training "from puppy through Senior level". It also notes active membership of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue.

Who runs it

The about page says Chuck Prowler started the business more than a decade ago on his family's mountain farm outside Waynesville. Its own published service area is Waynesville, Asheville, Canton, Maggie Valley, Clyde, Sylva, Hendersonville and Brevard, and it points out the farm is a ten-minute drive from Max Patch.
