About Summit K9

Summit K9 works out of an appointment-only facility on Brooks Avenue near the airport, and its own site describes it as the Rochester area's premier dog training program. The angle that separates it from the other Rochester facilities is outdoor and sport work: the site says it specializes in building outdoor skills so owners can safely include their dogs in activities and travels, and it talks about stress-free leash walks and safe off-leash adventures as the goal.

How clients are routed

Every new client entering private training starts with a pre-training Behavior Consultation with the staff member assigned to their case. The site is direct about why: dog training is not one size fits all, and the consultation is used to counsel the owner on which program fits, taking the dog's needs, the owner's schedule and the budget into account. Programs are frequently customized from there.

What is on the menu

Five services are published: private and day training, enrichment daycare, board and train, scent detection, and group classes and workshops. The board and train programs are described as intensive and aimed at efficient, lasting results. Enrichment daycare is positioned for owners who want extra exercise and stimulation while they are at work, rather than as a separate business line.

The sports side

The site repeatedly points owners toward competitive dog sports, saying the team helps clients take full advantage of the many activities and sports they can enjoy with their dogs, and listing competitive sport entry as one of the reasons a client might walk in. Scent detection has its own service page.

Practical detail

The facility is by appointment only and the site asks for no walk-ins. Its stated mission is to help owners build a clear communication system that gives the dog the freedom and enrichment it needs.
