Animal Protective Foundation
Overview
About Animal Protective Foundation
The Animal Protective Foundation on Maple Avenue in Schenectady is Schenectady County's shelter, and it publishes a Canine Academy as a service of its own – training that is open beyond the animals it rehomes.
The Canine Academy
It appears in the site's own navigation as a standalone item alongside adoption, spay and neuter, and the help-for-pet-owners programs, rather than being buried inside adoption support. As with most shelter training, the practical value is cost and location: a Schenectady owner gets structured classes without driving to a private facility.
Everything else the shelter runs
Adoption for dogs, cats and small animals with a published process, foster and volunteer programs including youth volunteering and group opportunities, a pet food pantry, a Fix Mom For Free spay program, wildlife resources, financial assistance toward veterinary bills, a shelter and rescue listing, cruelty reporting, lost and found, stray intake, surrender support and end-of-life services.
Practical note
Class schedules at a nonprofit shelter move with volunteer capacity and the calendar. Check the current Canine Academy schedule with the shelter rather than assuming a fixed term, and ask which classes are open to dogs that were not adopted from them.
