Overview
About Albany Obedience Club, Inc.
Albany Obedience Club has been going since 1955 and owns its own training building on Wemple Road in Glenmont. It was founded to train and trial in competitive obedience, and while the membership now competes across several dog sports, the club structure is intact: instructors are club members who volunteer their time.
Classes, and who can take them
The published class program covers agility, obedience, rally and scent work, plus multiple levels of Canine Good Citizen, tricks and more. Crucially for a pet owner reading this, the club states that classes are open to non-members on a space-available basis – so you do not have to join to train there. Classes run in numbered sessions through the year with a published training schedule.
The trial calendar
This is also one of the few places in the Capital Region that hosts sanctioned competition rather than just preparing for it. The club's own calendar lists scent work trials, agility trials, rally trials and a novice obedience trial across the fall, plus agility run-thrus, green-dog agility run-thrus, show-and-gos, AKC Fetch events and seminars. There is a junior program with classes open to juniors.
What that means for an owner
If your interest is a well-behaved pet, the club says so explicitly and offers the CGC and obedience ladder for exactly that. If your interest turns out to be sport, this is the local on-ramp: the same building runs the classes, the practice run-thrus and the trials.
