About Sweet Paws Pet Grooming and Boarding

Sweet Paws is a full-service grooming and boarding salon in Lakeshore Heights Plaza on Route 31 in Cicero, and it hosts an in-house dog training service, Canine Culture, with its own page on the salon's site.

The trainer

The training is run by Lisa Mawson, who the site describes as a certified master trainer with over thirty years of experience and a member of the APDT. She started Canine Culture in 2003 and the site says she has continued her education with behaviorists, veterinarians, ethologists, authors and trainers since. Booking is done by calling the salon to arrange a consultation.

What the training covers

Canine Culture specializes in fearful, anxious and overstimulated dogs. The stated approach is a balanced methodology that teaches the owner alongside the dog, with a package shaped around both the individual dog and the owner's schedule rather than a fixed course.

The rest of the business

The salon side is substantial and separate: full-service grooms, full-service baths, a puppy package for dogs seven months and under designed to make a first grooming positive, cat grooming in a private room away from dogs, an express groom with no kennel time for pets with a medical condition or severe anxiety, a deshedding package, and nail trimming and filing. The salon is open seven days a week and is CPR and pet-safety certified.

What that combination means

For an owner whose dog struggles with handling as much as with obedience, having the training and the grooming under one roof and one phone number is the practical draw here.
