About The Pointer and The Pin

The Pointer and the Pin is a daycare, boarding and sport facility at 4795 Route 60 in Gerry, roughly midway between Jamestown and the Cassadaga lakes. Daycare is the core of the business – "Doggy Daycare Done Right" is the line at the top of the site – but the published service range reaches further: "We offer 3 levels of service that range from a fun day out of the house to competitive sport training and conditioning."

How the day is run

The ratio is the thing the founders lead with. "We offer a class leading 5:1 dog to caretaker ratio, with each staff member being in charge of only 5 dogs per day," and the stated reason is handling rather than headcount: "With this ratio we can individualize the dogs' sessions throughout the day and ensure that dogs that require special handling, dogs that are reactive, or dogs that are generally nervous are socialized and interacted with in accordance with their personality."

Who runs it

LynnDee Nagel graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 2024 with a Bachelor of Technology in Animal Science focused on canine training, and writes that she has "since become an AKC CGC/Trick Dog evaluator, and gained real world experience training dogs from basic animal behavior to sport, fitness and service dog training." Richard Myers started in 2016 with a hound mix, competing in barn hunt and agility, and describes "a passion for dog sports, concentrating primarily on disc, scent sports and rat sports, but also compete in dock diving, rally obedience, FastCAT." His stated main interest is "hosting events for competitors to showcase the skills and abilities they have learned."

What to ask

The founders' own competition records and LynnDee's service-dog experience are biography, so ask which of those skills are offered as services. Anyone wanting the class list, schedule or prices should email the address published on the page.
