About Pete the Dog Trainer
What they do
Pete the Dog Trainer runs in-home private dog training in Atlanta, sold as two packages. The Good Manners Package is three one-hour in-home sessions at $400 covering basic to advanced obedience, up to being polite in public places and around visitors. The Advanced Obedience Package is six one-hour sessions at $800 covering jumping up on guests, loose-leash walking, go to bed (place), recall in more distracting environments, and whatever else the dog is struggling with. Both include a detailed personalized write-up of each session, and both must be completed within six months. Sessions can run in the home, a local park or a patio.
Method
The trainer states eight years running the business and describes the approach as positive reinforcement: “I do not use punishment tools such as prong/pinch collars, electronic shock collars or choke chains,” on the argument that they are less effective and can increase a dog's fearfulness and aggression. The stated philosophy is that “training is about guiding your dog to make great choices” rather than compliance alone, and that it begins with understanding how the dog learns.
Recognition
The site lists Nextdoor Favorite for 2022, 2023 and 2024, and a 2019 nomination for InTown Atlanta's Premier Dog Service.
