About Okatoma Boarding Kennel
What they offer
Okatoma Kennel is a family-run boarding kennel for dogs and cats in Hattiesburg that also runs dog training. Its Training page lists a Basic Obedience Class, open to dogs over 4 months old, and an Intermediate Obedience Class for dogs that have finished basic obedience or equivalent, with the AKC Canine Good Citizen test given at the end. The site says classes cover basic obedience skills as well as problem solving and manners.
Class format
Each class meets for one hour, once a week for six weeks, with a maximum of 8 participants and a minimum of 5. Proof of vaccination is required, and the page says aggressive dogs are not allowed in class but can book private lessons instead. Classes are held in the parking lot next to Veterinary Associates of Hattiesburg on Broadway Drive, and registration is by printed form mailed to the kennel.
Private lessons in your home
Three one-time private sessions take place in your home: Introduction to Puppy Hood for puppies 16 weeks or younger, with the whole family; Preparing for Baby, for families expecting a new baby; and Behavioral Modification, a one-on-one session for dogs with behavior problems.
Boarding
The home page describes the kennel as a family business with a dedicated dog area and separate cat suites, with kennel tours by appointment.
