About Canine Inspired Change
A nonprofit training center in St. Paul
Canine Inspired Change (CIC) is a registered 501(c)(3) organization based at 2300 Myrtle Ave in St. Paul. It pairs trauma-informed dog training classes with therapy dog programs for schools and organizations across the Twin Cities, run from a 4,205 square foot education center.
Training approach
CIC trains with science-backed positive reinforcement and emphasizes the relationship between dog and owner. Classes use trauma-informed language and bring in mindfulness practices such as breathing exercises to keep sessions calm and focused.
Classes
The class list includes Foundational Skills (six sessions of obedience cues, impulse control and calm behavior), a Puppy Class for pups under six months, a Tweeners Class for adolescent dogs, Big Feelings for reactive dogs, a Play Clinic on social play and body language, Recall Rover, Tricks, Canine Good Citizen and Nosey Dogs Club scent work. Private one-on-one sessions take place at CIC HQ or in the owner's home.
Therapy dog teams
Owners can train toward volunteering as a therapy dog team: a six-session foundations course, then eight sessions of therapy dog training ending in an evaluation, followed by background and veterinary checks.
