About The Exceptional Canine

Training

The Exceptional Canine Academy is a dog training business in St. James, Missouri. Its services are a board and train program, private lessons and boarding, and the site says it trains any breed, age and size and supports owners after every program. During a board and train stay, dogs learn basic obedience commands – sit and stay, climb, wait, down and stay, heel and recall – built on three principles the site names as timing, consistency and motivation. The Services page describes its methods as balanced.

The trainer

The About page names Amanda May Spurgeon as owner and head trainer and says she founded the business in 2022. It says she graduated in 2019 with a degree in animal science from the University of Missouri, then studied advanced dog training at The Tom Rose School, including scent detection, protection, competition obedience and tracking, and that she is Training Director for her PSA club.
