About Companion Dog Club
Omaha's oldest dog sports club
Companion Dog Club in Omaha describes itself as the oldest dog sports and obedience club in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area. It was established in 1959 as a non-profit organization and has grown to nearly 200 members, most of them actively training or competing in obedience, agility, rally, flyball, scent sports and other dog activities. The club building is at 10803 N 72nd St.
Classes
Classes run from puppy kindergarten to advanced competition training. Basic options include Companion Dog Puppy Foundations, Obedience, S.T.A.R. Puppy and Canine Good Citizen. Beyond the basics there are rally, nosework, agility, flyball, conformation and a tricks class that works toward AKC Trick Dog titles, with testing during the last class. A hunting class, usually offered in spring and fall, teaches voice, whistle and hand signal commands, retrieving and quartering for upland game over four 2-hour outdoor sessions after an orientation night.
Instructors
Most classes are taught by instructors who have trained their own dogs to advanced titles in many disciplines and venues, including AKC, CPE and UKC. Classes are canceled when Omaha Public Schools close or go remote for inclement weather.
