About Willamette Valley NAVHDA
A versatile hunting dog chapter
Willamette Valley NAVHDA is the Corvallis-based chapter of the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, an official chapter of NAVHDA International and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It aims to provide a welcoming, fun training environment that helps members develop their versatile hunting dogs as companions and hunting partners.
Training
The chapter uses hands-on, positive reinforcement to train both handler and dog. Organized training days are typically held the last Saturday of each month from February through July. Natural Ability training works with young dogs on introduction to birds, searching and holding point, while Beyond NA training moves on to steadiness, searching and retrieving for higher test levels. NA training registration is $25 and includes a bird package, and quail are usually available for $5. The chapter also holds Duck Search training and obedience-focused sessions. Training days are for members who have signed the chapter waiver.
Testing and membership
Official NAVHDA tests are held each year in May and August. Members get discounted testing, monthly training days, training ground access and members-only content, and all family members are encouraged to take part.
