About Wolston Farms
A working sheep farm near Scio
Wolston Farm is a working sheep farm in the Willamette Valley, on Highway 226 about one mile east of Scio. It is home to Ian Caldicott and Raven OKeefe, a flock of Shetlands, Scottish Blackface, Black Welsh Mountain crosses and their own "Wolston Sheep" mix, and a working crew of Border Collies and livestock guardian dogs. The farm raises and trains Border Collies to manage the flock and to run in competitions.
Herding lessons and training
Ian trains handlers and their dogs. The farm offers individual herding lessons, clinics, in-house training, and dog-and-handler vacations for owners and their herding-breed dogs. Ian's training framework, The Five C's, underlies every lesson and has its own sister site. Ian also runs and manages sheepdog trials, offering full-service trial management for venues that want to host one, and the farm sells lambs to people looking for sheep to build a flock or train dogs on.
What to ask
Ask about lesson pricing, clinic dates on the farm calendar, and whether your dog's breed and experience level suit herding lessons.
