About PTSD Dogs and Tags of Wyoming
What they offer
PTSD Dogs and Tags of Wyoming is a nonprofit in Cheyenne, operating since 2015, that trains service dogs to support people living with PTSD and traumatic brain injury. It serves military veterans and also civilians, at the same cost to both, and works alongside therapists so the handler and dog can succeed together.
Service dog training
Training programs cover a range of needs, including PTSD, traumatic brain injury and mobility challenges. Dogs learn tasks such as turning lights on and off, picking up dropped items, alerting to alarms, finding help, reminding the handler to take medication, bracing on stairs and offering anxiety reduction support.
Help for owner-trainers
The organization also guides owner-trainers on choosing the right dog, bringing a service dog into family life, the cost of ownership, public access and workplace rights, and vest etiquette. Grants are offered when available, and the application is on its website.
