About Grand Forks Dog Training Club
What they offer
The Grand Forks Dog Training Club provides the general public with education and training for all kinds of dogs, at its training building on Demers Avenue. Classes are taught by club members who donate their time and have trained and shown their own dogs in the areas they teach.
Classes
Entry-level classes include Puppy Kindergarten for puppies up to six months, with socialization, puppy obedience and confidence building, Puppy Plus for six to twelve months, and Basic Manners for adult dogs covering sit, lay down, come, leash skills and stay. Owners then move on to Puppy Advanced, Intermediate Manners and Beginner Obedience, which proofs stays, loose leash walking, drop and leave it around distractions. Further classes cover obedience and rally skills, scentwork, novice fetch, agility and a therapy dog class.
Testing and events
The club offers AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy certification, Canine Good Citizen and trick dog evaluations, therapy dog testing seminars and Fast CAT fun runs. Requests go through a class request form, and a registration coordinator places each dog in the right class; some classes have a waiting list.
Method
The club describes its training as firm, fair and consistent with heavy doses of praise and rewards, based on positive motivation and reinforcement. Private lessons are not available at this time.
