About Lake’s Guardians Kennels

A family kennel in Clewiston

Lake's Guardians Kennels is a family-run German Shepherd kennel and dog training business in Clewiston. Humberto Calvo, described as an expert dog trainer for 20 years and a master dog groomer for 25 years, leads the training, and the whole family trains and competes with its own dogs, including conformation and IGP shows. Visits are by appointment only.

Training approach

The training philosophy is built on balance between human and dog. Training starts by teaching the dog to understand training, then builds toy and food drive so the dog is willing and happy to work. The family uses positive reinforcement and corrections with different kinds of training collars, depending on the initial evaluation, and rewards with toys and food. It also uses pack structure and stresses respect for the dog's spirit.

Board and train

After a training evaluation, dogs follow a phased board and train system: three weeks at the kennel, then two weeks at home, repeated until the desired level is reached. Phases include puppy training, basic obedience, advanced obedience, socialization and specific behavior needs, and each ends with a demonstration and practice plan for the owner. The kennel also specializes in behavior control, show training and personal protection.

German Shepherds

The kennel sells German Shepherd puppies, young dogs and adult dogs and offers breeding services. Phone 305-370-2313.
