About Core K9 Academy

Balanced board and train in the Wilmington area

Core K9 Academy, operating as Core K9 Solutions LLC with a Claymont location, is a balanced dog training company focused on improving dog and owner relationships through communication, trust and respect. Its goal is to give owners the knowledge, skills and tools to lead their dogs and to keep dogs in their homes and out of shelters.

Method

Core K9 uses all four quadrants of operant conditioning. Motivators such as the dog's daily food, exercise, praise, play and touch build positive reinforcement and conditioned reinforcers, and calm, clear corrections mark unwanted behavior. Leashes, training collars, markers, kennels and gentle leaders support behavior modification. Once commands are solid after hundreds of rewarded repetitions, dogs are held accountable for known commands to proof them around distractions and at distance.

Board and train

The board and train program runs in a 24/7 structured environment with a balanced pack and clear rules, and each program is tailored to the dog. Core K9 welcomes jumping, barking, digging, nipping, counter surfing, resource aggressive, fearful and anxious dogs. For every day a dog spends in its board and train, a portion of proceeds helps feed a foster pet.
