About Unstoppable K9

Unstoppable K9 is a fear-free facility at 571 Route 6 in Mahopac, run by co-founders Michele and Amanda. Michele is a certified trainer – CCDT through Catch Canine Academy, per the site – and also owns Backyard Bones in Carmel; Amanda came to the business through her own dog's mobility problems and drives the hydrotherapy side.

The class schedule

This is the most published class list of any trainer in the area. Elementary Obedience runs five weeks at $400 and covers sit, down, watch, recall, off, place, loose-leash walking, drop, wait, stay and leave it. Impulse Control and Intermediate Obedience are each five weeks at $400, the latter aimed at focus and walking regardless of environment. A separate class works on calm, engaged walking on and off leash. Tricks and Nose Work each run five weeks at $400; the nose work class welcomes reactive dogs but not dogs with a bite history, and dogs settle in a crate between search rounds.

Puppies

A Saturday morning puppy play group runs 11:15 to 11:45 at $20 a session, capped at ten puppies, with vaccination requirements published. The site explains the 8 to 16 week socialization window and structures the class around puppy-to-puppy play with owners staying back, so the puppies learn from each other while a trainer reads the room.

Beyond classes

Michele also offers private training and Canine Good Citizen evaluations in house. A two-hour pet CPR and first aid course runs at $150 for up to twelve people. Grooming with a Fear Free certified groomer and hydrotherapy with a certified hydrotherapist share the building, and the business is a partner of the Sierra Delta veterans program. Everything is by appointment.
