About Club Canine Houston LLC
The Thinking Dog System
Club Canine calls itself Houston's premiere obedience training facility and original day camp, at 4703 Rose Street in Houston. Its approach, The Thinking Dog System, builds confidence through consistency, on the belief that a dog who learns to make good decisions is safer, happier and easier to live with.
How the program runs
Training starts with a Training & Behavioral Consultation, a working session of two hours or more held in the home with every family member who lives with the dog. It covers canine communication, current behaviors, a structured management program and early exercises for focus and attention. Private lessons follow, starting at home and moving to a local park or the facility as the dog and owner progress. Teams then join the Foundations Obedience class, which generally meets one night a week and every other Saturday morning.
The trainer
Owner and founder Dean Miller grew up around his family's dog training business in the early 1980s and graduated from Bud Brownhill's Institute of K9 Behavior Therapy in the early 90s. His company, Dogs California LLC, opened in Houston in 2000. He competed in obedience with his American Pit Bull Terrier, Krom, and lists behavioral rehabilitation of aggression, service and therapy work and scent work among his specialties. Hours run 8am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday.
