About Calli’s Lessons Dog Training
Austin training named for a rescue dog
Calli's Lessons Dog Training is run by Julie Murray in Austin. Julie has a degree in zoology with a focus in animal behavior, and named the business after Calli, an anxious cattle dog mix who became her demo and neutral dog. Julie continues her education through science-backed trainers and organizations.
Lessons and classes
In-home private lessons cover leash walking in your own neighborhood, home management and getting the whole family involved, for $150 per session. Virtual private lessons over Zoom are $120 per session. Group classes meet on Saturdays at Wikazri Field, 11101 Slaughter Creek Dr in South Austin, with Puppy Basics and Adult Basics running six Saturdays. Topics include basics, beyond-the-basics skills, behavioral issues such as dog or human reactivity, anxiety, fear and over-excitement, and dog sports prep with connections to local sports resources.
Method
Calli's Lessons states that it is never necessary to hurt a dog to teach it, and it rules out shock collars, pinch collars and other tools meant to cause pain. The focus is on a relationship built on clear boundaries, expectations and trust.
