Mud Puppies is an independent, locally owned dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training business in Austin with two north Austin locations: 12233 Ranch Rd 620 N near Cedar Park and 12196 N Mopac Expy near The Domain. It calls itself a seven-time Best of Austin winner, and its current ownership team took over in 2008. Training is available at both locations with dedicated trainers on staff.

Method

Training relies on positive reinforcement exclusively, built on trust rather than fear, and rules out shock collars, prong collars and intimidation.

Programs and prices

Train and Play teaches basic obedience, manners and socialization during regular playcare, as a 6-day package with playcare for $390. Behavior Modification is a more structured 6-day package for reactivity, anxiety and resource guarding, starting with a consultation, for $450. Private training is held in your home: an initial 45-minute consultation is $75, sessions are $125 after that, and a five-session package is $565.50. Puppy socialization classes build confidence and foundation skills for young puppies, and private lessons can start as early as 8 weeks. Training combined with daycare begins at 12 weeks with Bordetella, Rabies and at least one DHPP vaccination.
