About Bar W Dog Training

Relationship-based training in Caldwell

Bar W Dog Training is a dog and puppy training business in Caldwell run by trainer Riley Wohlgemuth. Riley has been professionally training dogs for nearly 9 years, started as an apprentice trainer after struggling with her own Basset Hound, Georgia, and is a Professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP).

Approach

Bar W calls its philosophy relationship-based dog training, using basic obedience and consistent methods to teach owners to communicate with their dogs, with a mix of techniques Riley has learned from several trainers and behaviorists. Its training agreement lists tools that may be used, including prong collars, bark collars, remote training collars, slip leads and muzzles. Riley's own dogs help train board and train dogs.

Programs

The most popular program is a 3-4 week board and train for behavior and obedience: sit, down, stay, place, loose-leash walking, come, crate and potty training, calm behavior, socialization and outings to stores and parks. A 90-minute one-on-one Strategy Session sets goals and helps owners choose a program, and a 5 lesson package of one-hour sessions teaches handling. Boarding with brush-up training is for current and past clients, starting at $60/day.

What owners say

One client wrote, "Riley takes the time to assess the needs of all the dogs she meets."
