Training center and pet resort

Tandem Canines Pet Resort is a family owned training, boarding and grooming facility at 10742 Braun Rd in San Antonio, a mile outside 1604 on Braun Road, just before 1560. Formerly known as Holidawg Pet Resort, it came under new ownership when the team behind Tandem Canines Training Company bought the kennel. The property has a half-acre training field, a play yard and over 35 kennels.

The trainers and method

Tandem Canines is a two-woman team. Head trainer and behaviorist Jessica Rendon is credited with 12 years experience, study with Animal Behavior Institute and Animal Behavior College, and mentoring from military, police and behaviorist canine handlers. Katiebeth Brandt runs operations. They describe themselves as balanced trainers who take all training tools seriously and teach dogs that choices bring both positive and negative reactions, so dogs can perform even with no treats around. Both are Canine Good Citizen evaluators.

Programs

General obedience runs in basic, intermediate and advanced levels, starting at $850 for 8 sessions, and a one-time Try It lesson is $150. A three-week board and train, starting at $2,400, takes place in the trainers' home on the property and includes three follow-up private lessons. Behavior modification covers dog and human aggression, confidence building and trauma rehabilitation, and service dog training includes public access and task work. A $25 consultation starts the process, and CGC tests are $25.
