St. Pete Dog Works is a St. Petersburg dog training company at 3001 Central Ave, built around the line "Positive motivation. Thriving dogs." It offers group classes, one-on-one training, training walks, free puppy play, puppy playdates and a puppy day camp.

Philosophy

The company stands for positive-based training with outcomes grounded in science. Its core model uses positive motivation (positive is not permissive), science-based learning theory, replacing unwanted behaviors with better responses, management, fair leadership, clear communication and a holistic view in which nutrition, exercise and enrichment support training. When a method isn't working, the trainers follow a least intrusive, minimally aversive strategy.

The trainers

Founder Heather Morris brings 15 years of professional experience in the pet industry. She holds the CPDT-KA, is a professional member of the APDT, a Fear Free Certified Professional, an AKC Certified Evaluator and Pet CPR and First Aid certified, and she competes in conformation, rally and dock diving with her Dalmatians. Trainer Debbie Welsh has trained dogs for over thirty years and is a past vice president and instructor at the Dog Training Club of St Pete.
